Director
Gregory Cooke directed Sir Ian McKellen in last year's theatrical triumph "A
Knight Out in Los Angeles." Directing one of the masters of the stage at first seemed
a daunting prospect, but Cooke settled into it rather quickly as he worked with McKellen
to adapt the piece for Los Angeles in the late 1990s. McKellen's one man show
featured works from Shakespeare to Armistead Maupin in a completely sold out run at the
Los Angeles Theater Center. Cooke then directed the Harold Pinter play "The Dumb
Waiter" at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, Colorado for the premiere annual Aspen
Theater Festival. More recently, he is to direct David Hay's new play "High
Maintenance" set for a Spring 2000 opening in Los Angeles.
